Reese, Harry; Arp, Jean [or Hans]
Arplines: a Portfolio of Lines By Harry Reese. Isla Vista, Turkey Press, 1989
INCLUDES AN ORIGINAL ACRYLIC PAINTING, DRAWINGS, COLLAGES, and signed by artist.
This stunning artists' book was created by Harry Reese in 1989 / 1990. The writings of Hans Arp have inspired this portfolio of poems, prints, drawings, and collages. Text lines from the poems, letters, interviews, prose writings, and experiences of Arp have been lifted from their original contexts, worked over, translated at times, and then recombined with various new images and objects to make new poems.
"The lines are Arp's, but the poems are mine", Reese declares. This stunning edition was adapted from an earlier (1980), small Turkey Press book of the same title, and is far more ambitious and elaborate.
Each unique copy of this edition of 43 numbered and signed copies is hand-created and unique. The text is loose as issued in the artist's folding box, the cover of which is a superb original acrylic painting by Reese. Among the finest examples of work in this form by Reese, Arplines has the virtue of combining the fruits of long contemplation of Arp's life and work with the accessibility of an entertaining Dada flavor that truly shows the artist's creative joy as well as his knowledge.
Harry Reese has long been among the most respected and influential printers and artists working in the book form, has been exhibited at museums throughout the US and Europe, and has become increasingly well known for his large public art projects.

COMPLETE Run of Rolling Stone Magazine's First 916 Issues (1967-2003)
Rolling Stone Magazine COMPLETE RUN Volume 1, No. 1 Through Issue 916 (916 issues). Wenner, Jann (editor & publisher), Straight Arrow Publishers, San Francisco, 1967-2003.
From the exceedingly rare Volume I, number 1 (November 9, 1967) through issue No. 916 (February 20, 2003), this is a superb run of the landmark journal of the Rock and Roll era.
Includes the complete run of Hunter S. Thompson's landmark contributions to Gonzo Journalism, including his drug-crazed travel rants and his vitriolic coverage of the 1972 Presidential Campaign (which became FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL).
This run was put together by a private collector who subscribed all the way through! With the exception of some creasing along folds and occasional minor tears, this is a superb set. ROLLING STONE is the primary documentation of this influential strain of American popular culture (and foreign culture as it influenced America). The list of literary, photographic, graphic arts, musical, political, etc., contributors and subjects is extraordinary. As the magazine evolved from counter-culture to corporate, it offers the collector or scholar a unique and comprehensive resource.
The covers alone would make a remarkable exhibition of the evolution of this creative medium from cellar to billboard. THIS ENORMOUS RUN FILLS 12 BOXES measuring 12x10x18 inches, with an average weight of 30-35 pounds. Total estimated shipping weight is 350 pounds.
